Making a digital pinhole camera - 03-29-2005, 06:32 AM

Has anyone here had any experience with shooting with pinhole cameras? I keep looking at different articles about making a pinhole lens for a DSLR camera, and thought about giving it a shot just for the heck of it. Here is a link to someone who tried: http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/a...s_pinhole.html

I saw one on Ebay, it was a body cap with a hole in it for $30.

I do remember I made one when I was a kid, you know the glass plates and all that stuff....

Let us know if you do it and I want to see the image, I have thought about it but just have not done it.

I can't force myslef to pay that much for a bod cap with a hole in it. But making one doesn't look to hard. I'll post them when I shoot one successfully.

This reminds me of a visit to an eye doctor last year. He "pin holed" my eye with one of those black "paddles" that they use to cover one eye - except it had a bunch of pin holes in it. My vision was PERFECT with that! No lenses - or anything!

That was really a weird feeling - and I immediately remembered the pin hole cameras of the past!

But it was a laser cut hole, like that would make a lot of difference....

It just kills me to see what people will sell on Ebay.

For me, it's just another way to take pictures to see the world in a different way. There really doesn't have to be a point as long as you're having a good time.

I was going to try the "poking a hole in foil" method to see what happens first.

sorry if I came off sarcastic. What I meant is, what are the effects of pinhole cameras? is it more wide anglel or what?

A pinhole camera will give you almost an infinite DOF. Most pictures taken with this type of camera/lens will come off as slightly fuzzy (IMO) and shutter speeds have to be more than 1 second (depending on lighting of course) to get a viewable shot.
