SanDisk memory cards - 04-05-2006, 01:30 PM

I noticed the Staples ad for this week has the following cards on "sale" with rebates. From the pic, they look like standard issue rather than the really fast ones most of you like but hey, if the price is right...
SanDisk 1gb SD; $69.98-$14 instant savings-$11 rebate = $44.94 (#562830)
Sandisk 1gb Memory Stick Pro Duo; $79.98-$10 instant savings-$10 rebate= $59.44 (#596912)
Sandisk 1gb CompactFlash; $69.98-$14 instant savings-$11 rebate= $44.94 (#521744)

I always wondered how much you "need" one of the extreme III for shooting. I mean I'm planning on getting a rebel 350d. 3ps max i believe. I'd probably take 1 a second at most the majority of the time. would the average low end sandisk AFFORDABLE card be ok for me with the rebel 350d? It's not like i'm shooting with a 20d at 5fps for 30seconds straight. Anyone have an opinion either way on getting the "need" for this with my first digital camera body for hobby shots?

You may not need the speed but also think about build quality. Take a look at this.

How about a 2GB Ultra for about almost the same price?

I've got a sandisk non-extreme card. I think it's rated at "4x"

The only time I'd like some more speed is when I'm pulling images OFF the card onto the computer. It's true I don't often use the full framerate of my 20D, but I have on occasion shooting friends sports games, and I've never felt like I needed more speed out of the card.

If you shoot with a card with higher speed you will see a difference.

don't know the brand --- anyone have any insight into this brand? -- but the price is great for a 1gig and no rebates are listed.... it's a Fry's and Outpost.com -- $29 1 Gig SD card

I shoot sports also and generally use the Extreme III for the environmental factors. It is normal to be shooting all day long and into the night during the 100 degree plus days in the summer...........Plus they just download a lot faster.........

Check the write speed of your camera. It is the limiting factor. It doesn't do any good to have a card that writes 3Mb a second if your camera writes at 2 Mb a second.
