Nikon Fm10 problems

hi,
My FM10 won't fire properly. Sometimes it will fire and sometimes it won't/ Most of the times it won't fire. Any suggestions on what can be causing this problem or how I may fix it?

I'm assuming it's a film camera. Batteries? Sticky stuff on shutter button?

That's the obvious - aside from that, I have no clue!
