reasons to go from 10D to 20D? - 01-04-2005, 01:39 AM

I've got a Canon 10D right now, but being the "gotta have the new stuff on the market" kind of person I am, I really want a 20D. The 10D is serving me fine, and though it's approaching 12,000 shutter clicks since August of 2004, it's still providing wonderful pictures. However, the majority of what I shoot is sports, and the 9 image buffer can be a bit small at times. Also, I shoot a bit of night and indoor available light sports where ISO 800 (or sometimes even ISO 1600) is required. Though the 10D does well at ISO 800 and 1600, it's amazing how much cleaner 20D pictures look at the same ISO. Would this, plus the ability to use Canon EF-S mount lenses like the 10-22 or 17-85 IS, be justification enough to sell the 10D/BG-ED3, spend some money, and get a 20D/BG-E2 combo, or should I save my money and wait for the 20D to come down in price (and, consequently, the 10D's value)?

you seemed to answer your own question. if you need the bigger frame rate and buffer then by all means get the 20D. If you have an interest in getting the EF-S lenses then get into the 20D. If you have the available cash to get into the 20D then by all means get one and dont look back.

I was shooting with a 10D for a year and a half, I mostly was shooting bands at the time, at ISO 1600... the 20D noise at 1600 was awesome!

This, and the instant sartup time, and usb 2.0, and 8mpx pretty much sold me. Not to mention the price was the same as the 10D.

I have friends that sold their 1D m.II's to get a 20D, + glass. Go figure.

The only thing that disapointed me was the buffer for raw images is now "6" not "9" like on the 10D.
