if I would change anything on what you have listed it would be to go to the t2500 processor that is the duel core 2.0 GHz processor and change your drive from a 5400 rpm to a 7200rpm. Also on a note, you will see much more processing improvement from the 2.0 duos, than the 1.6 duos. I have both running in the office now...1.6 on latitude and 2.0 on precision M65...the M65 is great and has umph to do photoshop and raw photo processing as well as video. I have had the inspirion model line of laptops too, 7500, 8000, 8200 and the XPS 1st Gen...what was missing out of all of them that I now love about the latitude and precision line is the docking station kit possiblities. I can take my M65 on the road and work, and when I get home or to the office it goes into the docking station on my dual 19in FP1905's displays all without a hitch, just something else to consider...LOL...i know enough to drive someone crazy.

What did you end up going with?

I just got a new Dell laptop and went with the TrueLife option on the 15" model. After tweaking one of the settings in the video setup I'm now amazed by the sharpness and clarity of pictures on this monitor. There is a noticeable increase in contrast and saturation compared to my rather old previous laptop.

I've been utterly amazed by some of the pictures I just looked at in the last 10 minutes here on TPF. The boxing images are outraged scary seeing the detail of the wounds.

I just got an Inspiron 1705 two weeks ago. . . the duo-core Intel processor, 1Gb RAM, 7200rpm hard disk, etc. It's fast! I hope you have as much fun with yours as I am having with mine!

(I don't fly hardly at all, so the 17" screen is perfect for me.)

You can upgrade the processor in your notebook too, it's not that difficult to open up the Dells. You just have to be careful with those plastic clips, too much force and you can break them. But for my old Inspiron 8200 I upgraded it from a 1.6 to a 2.2 pretty easy. Just removed the keyboard via some screws on the bottom and the CPU/HS is underneath.

I also have to agree with buying memory elsewhere. Dell charges way too much for their RAM. I typically recommend Crucial for Dell stuff, since Dell uses Micron memory anyhow, and Crucial is owned by Micron... put two and two together... ;)
