2 Cameras 2 Problems, Help! - 07-21-2006, 03:14 PM

I have two 10D's and both have a problem. I have tried to clean the one with the black mark, but I can't seem to figure it out and get it cleaned. The other one, is it a Pixel out? Is there anyway to fix that? With both cameras can you guys recommend a place in the DFW area to get them worked on?

Thanks!!!!!!

Heidi

On the bird one, it's the Censor that is dirty. If you don't know how to do it, then your better off taking it somewhere and get it done.

The first one, looks like it's got a dead spot on the Censor. I have seen this before on LCD screens, but if the Censor is anythig like that, then that is what you have and most likely you will have to get the Censor replaced. There is no way to clean that.

Regards,

AG

Take the camera with the dead or hot pixel and shoot a white background and a black background- Dead pixel on white will show black but it will be a small rectangle, if it is a hot pixel it will show up white on the black background. These if they occur are an expensive fix-replacing the censor. IF it is in a corner of the sensor then just learn where it will be in your shots, set shots up so it can easily be photoshopped.

Agree the Pelican shot is just a dirty sensor-camera guide should have instructions on how to clean your sensor.

For the black spot, try an air blower like the Rocket air blower. If the air blower doesn't work, I guess your only option left is the wet method.

For the dead pixel, Canon service can map out the stuck pixels.

True. Only it is a dirty sensor. A dirty censor would be, um...a guy that screens morally-questionable movies and tv?

I sent my 10d in for cleaning and it did wonders. You probably have more that that spot. Stop your camera way down and shoot on a white backgroud. You'll likely see even more spots. Having said that, there are good kits to do that part yourself. I happened to need a new shutter at the same time. My 10d has now been retired to backup with my 5d shouldering the main load. Boy, it has sure taken a bit of rethinking to get back to full frame shooting again.. I LOVE the wide angles again, but find myself frequently trying to zoom in past a lenses capability!
