Was a Nikon shooter.. Converted to Canon 20D's then subsequently to 5D's... Main reason for me was high ISO performance. I shoot a lot of weddings and lower light gigs and the difference was staggering. I have seen some of the newer D200 shots and must say it's getting much better. My partner shoots the D2X and D200...For high ISO that D200 does very well. As far as ergo...I do think Nikon feels a bit better at the prosumer level..However, it really is a matter of getting used to the change. I am completely comfortable shooting with either now.
I like both Nikon and Canon.. It just so happens Canon sensors work better for my particular situation IMO.

After October, the M8 will arrive and all will be right in the digital world...

Nikon still lets me use all the old lenses I've ever bought - Canon just can't do it.

No disposables? Really? I've heard tales (not sure how true) of a wedding photog with a disposable camera with a prime lens (fixed), on-camera flash, full-frame 35mm, pleasantly yellow body color.
Sure makes for a light load, though you'll likely have to carry two or three if you cover the reception as well

Wow, I thought the ratio between Nikon and Canon would have been pretty even! That is a big surprise to me.
Canon, Nikon; six one way, half dozen the other.

Meet too. When we go to the thursday night get togethers, everyone has Nikons... guess the Canon owners are busy taking photos? LOL. There are a LOT of Canon owners in the general public. I hardly ever see a parent with a Nikon... but I see parents with Canons every single day.

...which is mainly due to Canon's aggressive marketing of the Rebel series, I think.

Daniel,
I'm not really sure why. It's probably a combination of branding and excellent, reliable cameras and lenses. I've always been happy with every Canon I've ever owned... even though I now use Nikon. I've never used anything other than those two... and I have no reason to either.
