Not just for Leica Geeks - understanding the Lens - 08-02-2006, 05:57 PM

I've been reading since yesterday Erwin Puts' Leica Lens Compendium and have to put it near the head of the list of books on lenses. While it focuses on the Leica lenses, it is one of the best books explaining just what makes a great lens and what is involved in designing a lens and the trade-offs a designer must consider.

I will warn you as you learn what make for "Leica Look" of images you may want to try it.

And my wife thinks the Canon lenses are expensive. All I have to do is look at Cartier Bresson pictures to get sold on the Leica. Maybe someday...

Actually used Leica lenses aren't that expensive. You can get a 40 year old M lens which is L quality for less than a non-L canon. That's what Puts book is good for to pick out the good old ones there.
