Nikon D50 / Memory Card Issue - 08-07-2006, 02:31 AM

At first I thought I had a bad memory card, but now after the third one that has gone bad I've decided that there is something wrong with my camera It is constantly corrupting my cards. I've now lost 3 different 1g Sandisk cards - I shoot RAW and can usually take between 15 - 25 pictures before I get a data error and loose all that I've already taken - then I can no longer format the card through the camera or on my computer. I'm about to throw my camera I was told to try and download updates ? But I can't find any - maybe I'm just crazy. I'm in a bit of a time crunch here as I'm scheduled to be induced with my first baby on the 15th and well, I'd kinda enjoy having a camera Any thoughts????? Suggestions???

Well, that's kinda weird. I also own a D50 and haven't had this experience. How old is the camera? Can you just return it to the store for an exchange? Otherwise you'll have to call Nikon tech support. I don't think they have any firmware releases for the D50, so we can rule that out.

If indeed you have to send your camera in to Nikon, they are very quick. My D200 took less than 2 weeks to send off and have it back in my greedy little hands.

I wish you the best and congrats on the baby!!

i never had a problem with my d50 and memory cards but i've heard some people complain about sandisk cards and after i had a couple of cf sandisk cards go bad with another camera, i switched brands and that did the trick....try using a different brand of cards and see if that works

It was purchased in April... and If I bought it locally, I'd return it - but it came from Beach Camera So, not sure what to do. I guess spend a while on the phone with Nikon today. I heard they were fast - but 8 days fast? I guess I'm spoiled now and really don't want to use my p&s at the hospital And yup, tried other brands of cards too - it's corrupted Sandisk, Lexmark and one other one (don't have it in front of me - so I'm not super sure of the brand) Talk about aggravating. Thanks for the help though (and the congrats)
