Memory Question - 08-28-2006, 04:01 PM

I currently have a D70 with two 80x 1Gb CF cards. One is made by Lexar, and the other is by Corsair. I've been pretty happy with them but will have to invest in a couple of SD cards when my D80 arrives. My question to the community is this: Who do you consider to be the very best manufacturer of camera memory?

I could stay with Corsair (their computer memory rox), but I'm curious as to what other folks have had good luck with.

I've never heard of Corsair.
Sandisk and Lexar seam to be the most popular.
I've had sandisk and only had one cf card die on me. And they give a lifetime warranty on their cards so they promptly replaced it. Luckily it died after i got the images off and went to put it back into the camera. Also, make sure that manufacturer lists the card you are buying as being compatible with the camera you are using it in.

Corsair makes some of the best RAM you can buy. I run their extreme series in my computer but I don't know anything about their CF or SD line.

I use Sandisk and never had a problem with it and I have over 20Gb of it.

I think SanDisk and Lexar are the two "top" makers of fast, quality memory modules. You can't go wrong with either of them. Of course, even I have a PQI for a backup... just in case... you never know.

CAVEAT: Use the cheap cards for insurance only. They're cheap and there's a reason for that.

I'll echo Sandisk or Lexar though the Kingston Elite/Extreme series work pretty well also.

We have standardized most of our cards to the Sandisk Extreme III (4GB and 2GB CF cards), but still have about 8GB worth of Kingston Elite Pros. We have not had any trouble with any of them.

This is piling on, but one more post for Lexar and SanDisk. If I remember correctly, the D70 manual list known compatible CF cards and they are all Lexar or SanDisk. As we know many other brands work just fine, but Nikon chose to list only those two brands. That may be a quality issue or it may be commercial, but you can be sure Nikon doesn't include CF card brands in the manual that are trouble prone.

Just to pile on some more :-) I've always used Lexar and Sandisk. Right now I'm using strictly Sandisk, I've got 24GB; I don't use the Lexars any more because they're just too small. Although I think one of the 2GB Lexars will move over to my GPS to replace the 1GB there now, that can only hold maps for 2/3 the country.

Lexar 80X 2GB for me, but I just got a pretty good price on 2GB Sandisk, so I will try them out soon.
