Shutter problems???

Okay, I don't know if I can explain this properly but I will give it a try. I have a Nikon D50 and use the 50 1.4 as my main lens. I've noticed here in the last couple of months I've been having problems with my shutter. I will use my back button focus, lock in my subject and then go to press the shutter and nothing. I will do it again and again and nothing. Then if I give it a minute press the shutter again, it fires. It happens in any setting that I use, manual, aperture priority, even in automatic. At first I thought it might be the lens or something but I switched out lenses and still have the same problem. I used my girlfriends D50 the other day and didn't have one problem out of it. Can anyone help me understand why this might be happening? I called Nikon but basically they told me just to send it in.

So it's focused, but it is not taking the picture? Make sure by putting the camera on Manual exposure and switching the lens to manual focus--it should fire every time. If it's still intermittent, I would second Nikon's advice to send it in...
