"Capture raw converter is significantly better than the PSCS raw converter. In the past, I converted raw with NC, saved as TIFF, opened in PSCS...that workflow works well with the D2X also. Haven't tried the new PSCS2 raw converter, but others indicate that NC is still significantly better".

What do you know? :)

Good mornin' Jim,

I thank you very much for suggesting that I try PSCS2 and the new ACR converter. It definitely is an improvement for me in my raw conversion workflow.

My real-world values are pretty much set. Can't say the same about my use of digital technology.

Canon makes great camera's, Nikon also makes great camera's. Too bad for us that there's no practical interchangeability between the brands with lenses and flash equipment...does force us to make that basic decision doesn't it? Many have stated that the competition between Canon/Nikon is good for us users...keeps the technology moving and prices down (Wish we could say the same about Photoshop). I don't care if my brand-choice is #1 or #2 (nikon is not the focus of my worship)...what I do care about is that it makes my photography-life easier and perhaps a bit better.

Again, thank you for suggesting that I try PSCS2 and the new ACR converter. It definitely is an improvement in my raw conversion workflow.

Have a good day and good shootn'. :)

Don't get me wrong, I think the D2x is an outstanding camera and I would own one now if it wasn't for the focusing bugs that have been coming up. This is not unusual for any new camera technology regardless of the brand.

I think Nikon has hit on a very unique product that would fit my shooting style perfectly and I look forward to the day they work out the bugs.

When it comes to photography I don't care what I shoot with as long as it gets the job done. I'm not touting Canon's over any brand because Canon has their faults too. I have always felt Nikon's glass was better than Canon's. This is the non-IS and Non-VR glass comparison which I find much better than the IS&VR versions.

You can be happy with the fact that you have an excellent camera and coupled with some of Nikon's outstanding glass it doesn't get much better.

This is coming from somone who has shot Canon for 35+ years both SLR and DSLR and who owns and has used every professional level DSLR made by Canon including the majority of their acclaimed "L" glass.

I look forward to seeing some of your work with the D2x.

Howdy Jim,

Thanks for the reply.

Prior to getting the cam, I was planning on immediately doing a battery of tests to make sure that it was okay. But, have been enjoying it so much that I just haven't gotten around to it.

Continuous tracking seems to be fine. It doesn't hit every time, but most of the time it's perfect.

S/N is 5025xxx...probably out of the latest batch. The furor on dpreview seems to have died down, so maybe nikon is getting it ironed out. My perception all along has been that the problems are software related (hopefully that's true).

Have sent a fairly new 17-55 DX back to the mother-ship. On the D70 it was a bit soft on the right side...bad soft on the right side with the D2X. Am waiting for this lens to return before getting out on the prarie for some serious landscape shooting.

I don't really need this camera. I'm the self-appointed official photographer at a nursing home, shoot a few portraits for the folks down there, and have been asked to shoot a wedding for one of the staff in July, but the D70 was just fine. I think that shooting landscapes is where this cam will really shine for me.

My excuse for owning a D2X: Kids are grown, wife's gone, small humble home is paid for, vehicles (old but reliable) are paid for, don't drink, don't play golf, don't fish or hunt, don't travel much or very far, have finally learned to stop chasing women...only real vises are photography, computers, and pipe-smoking (the pipe-smoking may go fairly soon).

Will try to get out and shoot some pics. Again, thanks for suggesting PSCS2.

And...thanks for helping keep this fine forum functioning smoothly!
