Doh! Broken camera for the holidays! - 12-02-2006, 07:40 PM

When returning home last week I carried my camera case into the house, not knowing that my wife had stuck my camera in it without zipping it closed (the lens hood was still on it so it wouldn't fit into the Slingshot bag). As I came into the house the camera slipped from the bag and landed on the entry way rug. I didn't see any immediate damage, but today I noticed that the 3 o'clock position on the controller on the rear of the camera body is now inoperable, i.e., it no longer springs back when depressed so I can't use it to pan or select to the right. It still takes pictures, but I guess I'll be sending it off for repair sometime next week.

Looks like it'll be the P&S for the holidays! Hope your holidays are off to a better start!

To be honest if you can hold off on shipping it out until AFTER CHRISTMAS SHIPPING PEAK you would be playing it a lot safer on the package being handled better. This time of year all the shippers have extra Christmas help hired and all that they are trained to do is to get the stuff on the trucks and out the door and mistreatment levels of packages go WAY UP.

Steve,

Precision seems to have their act together at last. If they have parts in stock, they are turning cameras around quickly. Sorry about the damage, but best wishes for a speedy repair. In case you don't know this, there is a downloadable form on Sony's site.

Steve:
I know how you feel. I have some paying gigs this weekend but my primary portait lens is on the fritz. The zoom ring sticks at about 50mm. I can still shoot, but I love the convenience of a zoom. Soooo.... I'm renting from Arlington Camera.

*sigh*

Next year can't get here soon enough, which is when I will be adding a 2nd camera body and another lens.
