Wolverine 20gb SixPac - 01-16-2005, 02:54 PM

After hearing terrible things about both of the mediacard-to-iPod transfer devices I decided to give the Wolverine a try. I bought the 20gb version and have hopes that this will be a great solution while on vacation.

Has anyone else had any experience with these devices? I know there are more expensive portable solutions available but I was hesitant to spend over $200 at this point.

I've got an older 10GB Sima ImageTank that I have used successfully over the last couple of years to hold pictures. Only problem I've ever had (which is probably only related to the ImageTank brand) is with voltage problems with Microdrive (CFII) and RAW images. They would transfer to the drive but would not show up on the drive index later on (would need to run a program such as PhotoRescue to retrieve them).

Otherwise, they're great.

I saw an add for something in one of my photo magazines. I can;t remember the exact name, but basically it was a portable CD player/recorder with card slots and a rechargable battery. You could plug in you CF card and burn it right to a CD. Suggested retail price was about $260.

After easily filling a gig today at the zoo, I realized my upcoming need for something like this.

I'll be traveling to Italy in April for 10 days, and I don't want to bring my laptop with me (both for the weight/nuisance and for their reputed theft problems), so something like this might be the option.

I have the X's Drive Pro with a 40GB drive in it. It's pretty slow at reading the cards but it gets the job done and was quite a bit cheaper than some of these new PSD's that are coming out with color LCD screens.
