Upgrading from the Nikon D50 to D80 - 12-18-2006, 02:08 PM

After being a happy D50 user for a year, I have just ordered a D80.

The D50, with about 27K actuations, will be kept as a backup and less-critcal use use body.

Has anyone else upgraded as such, and what have been your experiences?

some days i'm kickin myself in the behind over my d50 purchase. I want(ed) the d80 but was being too cheap when i made my purchase. I was also talked out of it by a couple of photographers suggesting that i invest the price difference in good lenses. Have you enjoyed your upgrade so far??? Circuit City has this 24-month 0% financing on all SLRs...i'm thinkin REAL hard.

Those that suggested spending more on lenses than bodies were correct. A good lens such as an 85/1.8D on a D50 will outdo a mediocre "kit lens" on the D80 everytime.

When I got my D50 a year ago, the choice was easier. The only other option was the D70s, which did not out-do the D50 in all areas, such as high ISO noise.

The D80 should arrive tomorrow. I'll follow up with a report.

i recently made the swap also. going from 6 to 10 is nice, but not near as nice as the larger LCD monitor and viewfinder. wow what a difference they make!
