Should TPF add an LF section similar to Sports/PJ/Weddings? - 12-21-2006, 06:46 AM

Looks like there are several people interested in Large Format Photography here, maybe just to learn but maybe to take the effort to break out that old LF that is setting in the corner of the studio and take it out on location once again.

I haven't really noticed that many posts in the other photo sections relating to LF, so I would say "not". Ditto for MF.

f/128 is a decent pinhole size for 35mm, by the way.

Why separate LF vs other type of photography? Do we then separate P&S from SLR from LF?

Maybe I tend to oversimplify things and hate all the different buckets, but a photo is a photo is a photo. The technical aspects of it have nothing to do with it - it's just a tool to achieve the end result.

Good grief. I cast the first "Yes" vote.

In the interest of attracting a wider audience and covering my personal choices at the moment, perhaps a "Traditional", "Film" or "Non-digital" forum open to all formats would be helpful. We'll even let John participate if he buys a large format scanning back and view camera.

I do agree that a good photo is a good photo.

Shouldn't it just fall in threads under 'equipment talk' or the specific subject matter being shot ?

I agree with Gordon and Jesus .. what is the purpose of splitting it, an image is an image, equipment is equipment.

Hey, doesn't the Holga and my Yashicamat 124 at least get me to MF status?

I wouldn't want to speak for Abel, but these polls that seem to be directed at pressuring him to add work for himself on a free forum are getting tiresome.

Brad's right.

I'll try to remember the usual disclaimers if posting photos. As for equipment discussions, that's covered already. Darkroom techniques can be discussed in ... hmmmmm ... wherever we feel like I suppose.

Yes, John, your cameras are fully qualified as medium format. A Yashica 124 is nothing to be sneezed at. Based on a brief browsing of B&W Magazine at Barnes & Noble the Holga is cutting edge technology. Bring it on!

I'm with Brad....

The status quo is doing fine. There are plenty of other sites out there that break things down to the minutia. TPF has a great "home town" feel and to start having it mirror the others would be a loss IMHO....

I voted Yes. And along the same lines, I'd also like to see a "Commercial Photography" forum. A place to post product shots, food photography, corporate stuff, etc. The only place for that now is the General forum and that just seems to be a place to post generic snapshots. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not a good place to get feedback on professional commercial stuff. MF and LF is also a popular format for commercial photographers.
