I agree. It's just that people do seem to get all worked up over 'minor' increases in pixel density. For the 'average' person who will seldom do more than 5x7 prints, upgrading a camera just for an extra MP or two at this point is a waste of money.

Yeah, total mis-statement. Meant to say 4X increase in MP to double the pixel dimensions (1000x2000 = 2mp while 2000x4000 = 8mp). All things being equal, ANY increase in pixels count is a good thing - but the quality of the pixels is more important than the quantity. I would rather have a 4mp DSLR image than a noisy 8mp P&S image any day.
