What amazes me is that Leica is sitting back and not taking any actions to make their customers happy. Any other manufacturer would have recalled the body, done a redesign, and then reissued.

For those that kept track or remember, this is almost the same pattern Contax followed before it went out of business. Their first digital SLR was top notch - a full frame 6MP body when the only thing available on the market was a 4MP cropped SLR. Contax ignored their customers, never bothered to market the product, and it ended up in disaster.

A vast majority of M8 owners today are "True Believers." Go take a look at some of the reactions to Mike's articles on .

And Leica has not handled it well. That was my big problem with them, the weeks of delay before any reaction to the IR problems and then the "take two filters" cure to what was a sucking chest wound in the system.

I've have for years loved Leica and pictures I took with but could see the M8 wasn't where a digital system should be today.

But I'm still going to take a Leica class so I can get some shooting time with one and just see what it is and it isn't. For now I'm happy to use the R-D1 for a rangefinder (yes, it to has an IR problem but not as bad as the Leica's).

"The market wants a Leica to be a Leica: the inheritor of tradition, the subject of lore, and indisputably a mark of status to own."
