I have a friend who was given a film camera the other day. its A Minolta XD-11.
Anyone use this camera or can help me with info on it? He is looking for a lens to put on it that will give him reach, maybe 70-200 70-300. Curious to know if you can still buy glass for it or if anyone can tell me anything.
We played around with it last night. It worked well with the 50mm lens on it. Gotta wait to see when it comes back from the lab to see how good the pics taken on it were.

Huck,
I have an XG- haven't used it in a while. At one time just recently I went to a camera clearance center and they had some lenses that would fit, you just need to find the right mount - i can't remember which mount. After a quick google I found this: http://www.rokkorfiles.com/XD11.html
Just glanced at it shortly, but might have some useful info.

Try dyxum.com. They mostly talk digital, but they can probably point you in the right direction. There is also a section for the M42 lenses.

Thomas,
I have a Minolta lens (I believe it is a 75-200) with an SRT mount with no camera. I believe the XD-11 uses the SRD mount which allows use of the newer features but will accept teh SRT mount. Just do an internet search on Minolta XD-11 and you can find all kinds of information. Send me a PM if you are interested.

After you know which mount and range of lenses work on the body, www.keh.com should have a good selection of lenses.

It just so happens I still have my old Minolta XD-5 and several lenses, including a Minolta MD Rokkor X 75-200 F4.5 Zooma Minolta MD Rokkor X 50 F1.7, another standard zoom and a 28mm. PM me if he might be interested in the zoom or other lenses.

Also, look up the camera on the web. I've seen places that have older camera models, including some enthusiasts' sites that are free. Or I can copy my XD-5 manual and PDF it, as the XD-5 and 11 were basically the same, with just a few differences in the bells and whisles.

PS - Change the word "models" to "manuals" in my last post.

The XD-11 is arguably the best manual focus body Minolta ever made. Your friend is very lucky. There are many lenses available for it. Any Minolta "MC" or "MD" mount lens will work, but the MD is preferable in order to use all of the body's features. It can be used in full manual, apeture priority, or shutter priority.
KEH (as has been mentioned) is an excellent source. As is Ebay, if one is so inclined.

I had a Minolta X700, which was contemporary to the XD11. I bought a Minolta MD 70-210 f4:f5.6 zoom (if my memory is good) and was very happy with it. Would work well with the XD11 in Aperture or Shutter Priority. Another good zoom lens in a Minolta MD mount in those days was the Vivitar Series 1 70-210 Zoom. You shouldn't have a problem finding either one on eBAY or elsewhere on the net, and maybe some dealer still has a new one!

Rick | The mount is the same, the older Rokkor/Celtic lenses were "MC" and the newer Rokkor were "MD". The link to the rokkorfiles is a good one. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
