D70 focusing problems. - 05-31-2005, 01:47 PM

Hey, any other D70 shooters out there have any advice for me? I'm getting a lot of pictures where the main subject is not in focus, but something else in the frame is. I think this happens mainly with a central subject, that's why it perturbs me so much.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Can you post an example with complete EXIF information and camera settings?

Depending on lens, focal length, aperture, and settings, there could be many different issues from camera shake to AF mode.

based on what you describe, without seeing an image, it sounds like the focusing meter is not set correctly. I have noticed that if I move the thumbwheel before a shot, the focus meter moves from the center to one of the outside areas so that if I am framing a suject in the center, the right area may be in focus...but again, am image for us to see would help....

d70 focus - 06-01-2005, 10:40 AM

I have done that a few times, make sure what the camera is focusing on, sounds like you have it somewhere other than the middle and that is where you wanted it to focus

on the back of the camera beside the lcd is a slide switch beside a dot and a "L". Find the focus point you want, center or whatever, slide the switch to "L". The focus point will not move, the D70 i use at work is locked to the center focus point works like a charm. Hope this helps.

Also make sure it is NOT on closest subject priority (unless done on purpose). That will cause the camera to focus on what it wants and not what you want.

I keep hearing bout Nikon Focus Problems with several models from different people.
I am a Canon user but would like to see images and data of this problem.
Is it fact, human error, or fiction ?
