Dropped 300 2.8L IS - 03-09-2007, 08:38 PM

My dad dropped my EF 300 2.8L IS 5 feet onto hardwood floor. The lens mount is bent and doesnt fit my 1D. The focus ring makes noises when turned.

I am going to go cry in a corner for awhile.

be glad you have (had) a 300 f/2.8!

but really, that blows. I hope your dad will pay for the repairs?

I'm sorry to hear this. But just think you can have the lens calibrated when you sent it to Irvine for repair...sorry, that's not much consolation.

Nick, I understand your worries but the Irvine repair center has a very good reputation. I wish you the best of luck.

Be glad it was your dad and not you...ha! Our pool 300 2.8 got broken into 3 pieces and came back $1200 later just fine. Works like new.

I agree with John, the Irvine repair center is very good. I should know, they just calibrated my stuff...explain how it happened, they may cut you some slack.

I agree, I've used both and I think Irvine is better than NJ. Faster too.

I know you feel bad, I was reading a review of the lens on B&H and the guy said even his out of focus shots were sharp! Now I want oneof those :)

I am currently operating in extreme desert conditions
(Kalahari and Namib deserts) and cannot believe the
robustness of this lens! The capabilities to shoot in very low-
light (an hour after sunset) is a big plus. Images are crisp and
even my out-of-focus shots are sharp!
