The big problem is the Minolta flashes use a serial protocol to be fired. Not the shorting of a pin like the rest. I did find some info on Dyxum.com that suggested the flash will fire if two of the pins were shorted, I'm guessing for backward compatibility with some of the older bodies.
But, since you don't have manual control of the flash like you do on the 5600 I'd guess it will fire at full power every time.
You can probably get a decent amount for you flash on Ebay (Like close to original list at least the last time I looked) and then turn around and buy a Vivitar 285HV.
