Suggestion on good Adobe Photoshop CS books? - 06-05-2005, 01:38 AM

I'm a total newbie to Photoshop ... I'm going to start learning more to develop my editing skills. I guess what's a good book to start and then what's a good advanced book for later. Is there one that is a nice balance?

I have at least a half dozen Photoshop books, and the very best one, and most benefitial so far has been:
"Adobe Photoshop CS-Classroom in a Book". It's so good in fact I just purchased CS2-Classroom in Book for my new CS2.

It's very easy to understand and takes you step by step through lessons provided on the CD which comes with the book. In each lesson, it takes you through several different facets of the program.

I knew a tad bit of PS before I bought this book, but I feel I've learned alot (lots more to learn!) since I started the lessons.
Hope that helps!
Cindy

Just about anything you can find by Scott Kelby. He is probably the current #1 Photoshop Guru!

Hogleg is dead on about Scott Kelby.

Try "The Adobe Photoshop CS Book for Digital Photographers" (Voices That Matter)
by Scott Kelby at www.amazon.com You will find hundreds of other photoshop books at Amazon.

Also if you are going to start buying books about Photoshop go to
www.photoshopuser.com and think about joining. They offer a ton of books with discounts to members.

I will second this suggestion, discounts on books, software and my favorite: free shipping from B&H :D Any of their books are good, they also have tutorials on the website for the members to use. Check it out, was the best money I ever spent. Made it back in my last order from B&H easily!, like I said Love Free Shipping.

I frequently use "Photoshop CS Quick Steps" ISBN 0-07-223231-5. I got it at our local Hastings for about $18.

This has a lot of screen shots, in color, and they try to take each item in just two pages. Pretty good book.

Thanks for the input ... When I get back from Africa I've got a little reading up to do. :)

"Photoshop CS2 Workflow - the Digital Photographer's Guide" by Tim Grey, Sybex, 2005.

The emphasis here is on workflow, rather than random adjustments.
