Sounds like a job for the manufacturer since some disassembly will be required.

Just thinking... Since this was at the beach, it could be salt residue from moist, salty air. Moisture dried up, leaving behind the residue.

uhhh same day cleaning ... unlikely.... sending it out to factory might be your best bet. if sand is inside that means taking it apart and that stuff gets EVERYWHERE. so you dont want a quickie fix.

What kind of lens? Canon Irvine was in May running a full two weeks for my last CLA. If it is Canon, be sure and do an on-line repair request. It will speed things up.

If it's a Canon L lens, then just rotate the manual focus ring back and forth until the grinding noise goes away They are tough and will chew up any debris and keep on workin'

(This is a joke, of course - don't take me seriously)

I've been going to the shop on Hwy. 6 for over a year. I wondered if we were talking about the same person. He was on Hwy 6 about 2 months ago when he rebuilt my Pentax 6x7.

It was the name that caught my attention. I got the address from either the web or phone book. I have never used them, but I think I called last year to get a quote. Must be a coincidence.
