UGH! I'm so frustrated. I'm having the worst luck. My D70 died 3 weeks ago. When it died, I went back to film and relied on my trusty N80. Well tonight, I went out to take some pics of the moon, and guess what- the N80 doesn't work! I turned it on, and the lcd blinked "Err". Thats all it would do. I changed the batteries and still get the "Err." I change lenses several times, and still no luck. I'm semi committed to shoot a quiencierea in two weeks, and I don't have a camera! I really need the money for the quincierea too. And next month, I'm going to Galveston and Big Bend National Park and Mexico. I'm seriously considering looking at some canon models. Should I?

Everything dies!!! It really sucks when they all die at once tho. Nikon is a great brand and so is Canon, if you want to switch over go for it but trust your Canon will die too. Its just nature!!

I had a similar thing happen to me with my N80 after not using it for a while. discovered some dust on the lens contacts. If that doesn't work and if you're in Houston, I have an N75 you can borrow until you get yours fixed. I'd loan you the N80 but I am booked for the next three weekends myself

109 participants over dpreview came out with this poll so far,
1.) D70 dead - purchased before Sept. 04.(27)
2.) D70 dead - purchased after Sept. 04. (1)
3.) D70 alive - purchased before Sept. 04. (56)
4.) D70 alive - purchased after Sept. 04. (25)

Everthing dies in the end, but D70 is lot quicker...LOL. ~30% (27/83) counts purchased before sept 04...died. Good luck.

You need to get a much larger sample size to make any meaningful trend observations. Plus, let's face it, the squeaky wheel makes the noise. I didn't see that thread on DPR, so I didn't respond. My D70 is working flawlessly. Purchased 11/04. So there you have it.

I agree, the ones with no problem are out there shooting instead of answering polls :D. I purchased mine May 04, working flawlessly as well.

Agreed and don't take any forum polling seriously but do acknowledge the issues. Warranty is only 1 year, find out the s/n see where you stand.
we do have a dead body here...

I bought the N80 in November. I've probably shot less than a 100 rolls with it. Thats whata making me so frustrated. I got the D70 in December. Now, they're both dead. Thanks for the offers to borrow equipment, but I've found a body that I can use for the time being.

Humored by the demise of others?:P Hope not.
This poll will have some value when the number of samples reaches several thousand. The thread you provided in your link is full, so will have to find the followup thread so that I can vote:
3.) Purchased 03-25-04, S/N 3005xxx, approx. 10,000 shutter releases...never had a problem. Keep it as backup to D2x.

Not once have I regretted buying-in to a Nikon system.

Just did a very quick search for a follow-up to the cited thread in dpreview and did not find anything...so the sample size still stands at .000000000001% ? Actually, I have no idea how many 00's to put in the % field, but probably more than a couple.

i guess you take poll too seriously and missed the value and useful solution. The poll was pulled for a reason because D70 got a potential risk of fatal malfunction and the person that started it like to find out how to identify and solve the issues. I did a quick search and linked the post so to help others, no trolling intended. Perhaps this is more suitable and recent and hey... NO POLL.

By the way, i shoot 20D and i WOULD LIKE TO ADMIT we have a problem with EG-E2 battery grip even mine is good. If you google '20D BG-E2 problem', there are threads everywhere topiced on the battery grip and, frankly, I start to hate reading this "polling on Battery grip thread every single week'. Now try 'D70 dead'...

I paid good money on the gears. I don't care i'ts nikon or canon, photography has more meaning and values than the brand, i just want it to work.
