Would you trade a D70 and D1 for a S2 - 01-25-2005, 04:04 AM

I may have an opportunity to trade my D70 and D1 for a Fuji S2. I was very happy with my S1 until I sold it. Great jpeg images right out of the camera. I don't too much with sports so I don't need a fast camera. I prefer to photograph people and Fuji's reputation and results seems to fill my bill.

I was wondering what others thought.

It was my understanding that the Fuji was based on the Nikon (I know the lenses work on it) so what are the feature differences?

I've never owned one, but the S2 is supposed to have an excellent CCD sensor (and the S3 for that matter). What what I've read, the Fuji body doesn't have near the features that the Nikons have. I guess it would take a careful review to see if you're giving up any features you wanted.

It's my understanding that the S2 has fantastic image quality but that in other respects is somewhat lacking compared to newer DSLR's: shooting speed, flash-sync, AF performance, buffering, etc.

If you want to shoot JPEG and primarily do portraits and such then it might be a good camera. For more general stuff, particularly any type of action/sports/wildlife, I think the D70 will actually be a better overall camera.

I have owned the S1, currently my primary cameras are the S2 and S20 pro.
Last month I shot a wedding and was peeved about the focus on my S2 to the point where I almost traded in on a D2h. But the final image is what I am most concerned with and there is no camera on the market, in or near the price range that can rival the S2 out the box. With that said, be very careful about used S2pros, my CCD died after 14 months, it had to go back to fuji for repair,
now the images are almost twice as good as before.
