DSLR Book - 07-03-2005, 04:15 PM

Looking to find a great DSLR book. If there is one geared toward the 20d even better. I know just enough about everything, as what my boss says, to get me into trouble. I'd like to have a good reference book, online book, or handheld that I can take with me in my backpack...

Any suggestions?

What are you looking to learn? A book that describes how to use the camera, or one that is more oriented towards composition, tone, etc.?

A book I just picked up -- it's big and heavy -- was John Hedgecoe's "The New Manual of Photography" It's slightly dated as it was writting one or two years ago so it won't be cutting edge in terms of the latest and greatest in digital photography (and there's a bunch of stuff on film photography that you might not be interested in), but the fundamentals of good photography never change and the book does a really good job of covering everything.

Use of the camera I can get from the manual. When I referred to a book that might be pointed to the 20d I was referring to tips/tricks that aren't found in the manual.

Overall, I'm looking for books dealing with taking good pictures based on the manual settings I may choose.

Horns
as recomended previously... photography is photography

the tools may change but the techniques remain the same

the dark room has become the desktop

a d70, d100, 20d all have the same things in common
apreture and shutter speed settings. using digital you can now choose the speed of your film with a click of a button.

I got the same book for Fathers Day and found it to be very imformative as far as basic usage of a camera, composition of photo's including tips and how to's through-out each chapter

note: carry a small note pad in your back-pack, jot down tips and what-not you pick up from this forum, you never know when you might come across an antique car show on your way to the bank... "now what settings did that guy use to shoot the cars with ?"...

good luck
