5D Problems - Any Ideas? - 09-01-2007, 01:30 AM

I shot 3 assignments tonight and every time I turned off my 5D, all my settings got erased like C.Fns, exposure, etc. I am running the latest firmware (1.1.0). I'm about to replace the backup battery and see if that makes a difference and try to reload the firmware from a card but does anyone have any other ideas short of sending it to CPS?

Ok, I'm an idiot. The camera was on the C mode somehow, I've never used that and had no clue what it even is, it usually stays in manual all the time. Brain fart!

"C" is for Custom. You shoot at custom settings in that mode, and they're "erased" once the camera is turned off (as you discovered). I never use it myself.

The KM 7D had 3 custom settings that were saved, and no matter what showed on the dials, when you changed to a saved setting, it over-rode the knobs. If you made a temporary manual change to the custom setting, the change was lost when you changed modes. I wish Nikon and Canon did this.
