20D Metering Modes - 07-05-2005, 08:15 PM

OK...I think I understand the different metering modes - evaluative, partial, and centerweighted - my question is: which do you use, when, and why?

I am about to switch it over to partial as I always have the center focus point, but I'm a bit concerned about getting good overall exposure.

Jesus,

I use partial metering 100% and center focus point about 70/75% of the time. The only problem I have with this is I tend to forget that eventho I change my focus point in camera, the metering is still taking place in the center of the frame. I also tend to forget that on those rare ocasions when I "recompose", the metering follows (and continues to meter) the center of the frame...still. Some day I'll study the * lock thing but I ain't there yet.

Any way, I sure do like my 20D and it's got LOTS of different features. What it's come down to for me is picking those features that work for me and not concerning myself with those that I don't have a need for (yet). So I use partial metering all the time, center point focus most of the time, AI Servo some of the time , machine gun shutter rarely and shoot in AV most of the time.

Remember, you had to ask.

Regards,
~dp
