5-in-1 Reflector stand... - 09-25-2007, 10:46 AM

Question for those of you that use reflectors...

I bought a 5-in-1 collapsable reflector and a stand to go with it - but I took the stand back immediately, because it could barely handle the weight of the 5-1-in.

It had small clips that barely caught the fabric of the reflector.

I saw (somewhere) a stand that had clips similar to binder clips - strong, looked like it could easily handle the additional weight - but I don't know the brand.

What do you use?

I have two light stands, so all I really need is an extension with the brace and the clips...

Suggestions?

TIA!!!

B&H has Avenger, Bowens, Flexfill, Hensel, Impact, Norman, Photoflex, Photogenic, Westcott holder arms for reflectors ranging from $49 to $109. There are a lot of options.

I use the Photoflex which is one of the cheapest and I am well satisfied. It can be used in a “boom” fashion and they have a waterbag weight available if your reflector needs a counter balance. They all might have the same ability but I am only familiar with Photoflex. It will hold reflectors from 12” to 50” in width. As far as the stand, if you are planning on using outdoors in a breeze you will probably need to add weights to the bottom of the stand as you would for an umbrella or softbox.

I use the Westcott Illuminator arm. Adjustable from 33" to 72". It works fine for me.

I use this one:

And when the stand isn't holding my reflector, its holding my Alien Bees ringlight.

I use a cheapo from Interfit. Even though it's a "cheapo" it works well, clamping to a light stand or tripod. The reflector-holding clamps grab the stiff rim of the reflectors.

I once reversed one of the clamps and used the stand and arm to support two 3x5 foot reflectors - they sat on the ground, but the stand kept them in place, giving me a huge wall of reflection.
