I keep hearing October 15 or 16, such as from
here or
here. My debate is whether to hold out for a 5D replacement which is predicted for January, or go for the much less expensive (with rebates) current 5D. I think, given my stage in life, the 5D would comfortably fit my needs. If the 5D replacement comes out in January, however, the rebate program would overlap with it's arrival on the market. The rebate program surely would not include the 5D replacement, but it would make the decision a whole lot easier.
Current 5D + 24-70L at double rebate:
5D at
B&H: $2500 (rebate $350)
24-70L at
B&H: $1250 (rebate $100)
Total: $3750
Total minus double rebates: $2850
I'm thinking the 5D replacement everybody thinks will appear in Jan will come out at $3000. So, $3000 + $1250 with a puny $100 rebate on the lens = $4150. That's a diff of $1300 for a few more megapixels and *maybe* better noise. Pretty much a no-brainer for me, since I'm not a fashion photog, or making murals or billboards.
I'm curious if anyone here has done a shoot with the 5D, and kicked themselves later for not having more megapixels or better noise performance. Most peeps here are selling to folks who burn their flash on their Elph P&S from row 120 at the night game and can't figure out why their pics turn out dark and blurry. Am I right? Ok, not everyone. I'm just sayin.
