Add Wi-Fi to (almost) any camera - 10-30-2007, 03:46 PM

A company developed a SD card that can act as a Wifi connection to send photos to your router, and it's only $100:

Where the CF version?

I saw the development notice on this a few months back... I wondered about having it talk to a Raon Digital Everun whilst shooting....hmmmm

Thought this looked promising ... after reading the FAQ's:

"What file type does the Eye-Fi Card upload?
The Eye-Fi Card currently supports JPEG photo uploads. Non-JPEG content can be stored on the Eye-Fi Card like a standard SD memory card, but only JPEG photos will upload. "

It looks like they upload to Snapfish, and/or other websites .. not sure if they will store into a "folder" on a remote computer ... and it appears only JPG's, so RAW images will be stored on the card.

I received a spam email about this and deleted in.

After looking at the eye.fi website, I think it might be useful.., if you don't shoot in raw.

Or if you have one of the cameras that shoots with two cards, one in raw and one in jpg. Be kinda cool to have your copy on the CF in raw, and have the editor's/media directors copy in his hands as you are shooting the event.

Thought about that since I just picked up a 1dmkIIn that allows that and can see how it might speed things up for the media team.

You could leave a venue and discover that one of your images is already in print.

No ad hoc connections.

That's a big drag - it has to connect through a router. Great...more crap to have to drag to the studio and/or location...

Or not, if I don't use it. LOL

I remember reading that this was being developed a year ago. So it's finally here. And $900 cheaper than the Canon wireless adapter for my Mk III. So my order has already been placed! I'll let everyone know how it works once it gets here.

Well- I wish I had a good review of this but I haven't been able to get it to work yet.

I don't have regular broadband in my home, I connect with a Verizon card in my laptop. The Eye-fi card has to connect to a wifi router with broadband access to be configured. I tried to bridge the wireless broadband to wifi with my laptop but it didn't work.

I haven't had much spare time so it's been on the back burner. I may have to carry everything over to someone elses house where there is a dsl/cable modem connection to set it up.

Hopefully after everything is configured it will work with my offline wifi router.

Stay tuned!
