Stories like that scare me away from microdrives. Some people who use them have used them for years and swear they are great but it just seems like I hear more stories of microdrive failure than I do compact flash failure.
Large capacity CF cards are now reasonably priced so I don't think I'll ever buy a MD but I also would not use either one over 1 GB. 1 GB holds about 130 RAW images. The thought of having 500+ photos on one card, MD or CF, scares me. Imagine going on a vacation, taking 4 GB of pictures, and suffering a card failure or theft on the last day. I guess some of the action photographers with cameras capable of high numbers of burst shots have a need for larger cards but not me. I would rather have 4 1GB cards even if it meant spending a little more.
