Anyone have any experience with this particular brand? Best Buy is advertising a 5 GB for $99.99....of course, the trick is getting there early enough after Thanksgiving

Yes - I have one and have been quite happy with it since I bought it last spring.

Thanks for posting, Anh. I saw that also on the blackfriday.com link that Abel shared earlier. I'm curious about the brand as well.
I saw their ad for $69.99 for a 160GB 2.5" portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive.

Circuit City has one advertised for $119 for a Western Digital 250GB portable USB-powered Hard Drive. (They open at 5am, by the way)

I have a WD 500Gb external drive that I use for backup. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I'll have to check out that link! So if CC opens at 5 am, what time should I get in line?

Doug & Wes~ thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards purchasing, as I do need it for back up.

Any given week you can find buys like this at Frys Electronics. I currently have 14 of the external hard drives of all brands. I've had the best luck with the AcomData drives and the WDs. The only failures I had is with Maxtor (2 drives have failed - but I was able to recover the data - but I had backups also). But I ran them 24 hours a day for two years before failure. All the other drives are strictly for backup so I only keep them on when in use (which I think is the best strategy for these kinds of drives).

Note: One strange thing is that most of these external drives only have a 1 year warranty, but if you buy a bare drive it has a 5 year warranty. You could thus pay $30 for an external case an build your own with a 5 instead of 1 year warranty (odd).

Cheers,
Roger

No trouble at all with the WD drives inside our 2 Acomdata externals (500GB) we purchased at Fry's (outpost.com).

Thanks Roger & Harris! I'm glad to hear that y'all have not had any problems with the WD.
