Tamron 28-75

This is a discussion on Tamron 28-75 within the Equipment Talk forums, part of the Photography Information category; Had the lens for 2 weeks I guess now. ISO800, 1/50 and f/2.8 I'd consider this low light....

I've had mine for over two years. I think it's a great lens. Very sharp. To me the image quality compares with L glass. Plus it has a six year warranty.

My theory (maybe way off) is: there are good copies and not so good ones. Maybe I just got one of the not so good.

Where I bought it they only had one … my options were: keep it or return it.

Step 1: attach tamron lens
Step 2: set iso to 1600
Step 3: set aperture priority mode to 2.8
Step 4: set autofocus to continuous for moving subjects
Step 5: take photos
Step 6: proceed with confused face when they come out soft
Step 7: make sure manual focus isn't turned on (I'm just sayin...it's not like I've shot dozens of photos without realizing that before )
Step 8: set focus point on center box (D50) and ensure I pan with moving subject
Step 9: attach 50mm 1.8 for comparison
Step 10: proceed with even further confused look when those shots come out crisp (shot #4)
Step 11: wonder what the hell the camera's seein when i'm keeping the focus box on the subject but it still shoots OOF.
Step 12: get mad at the college kid on the other end of the floor with the sigma 70-200 2.8 vr

Despite protests to the contrary, I see this with Canon and Nikon lenses as well.

I love the lens. It is the only lens I took to Africa

Great performance. I recommend it to everyone.
