Who here has this lens? How do you like it, etc. Reviews seem very good and IQ looks great. Other options are just way to much (24-70L).

had this lens for a couple of years and loved it IQ is excellent only toped by the "L" glass. When I switched to canon I got a 17-50 f2.8 only because I wanted something a littel wider and I am very pleased with it.

only thing is if you are looking for build quality like "L" glass you have to by "L" glass.

IMHO

I bought the KM version for my KM 7D, and the Tamron was the first lens I bought for my D200. I'm not going to get in a spitting contest, but I don't see many Nikon or Canon owners in a hurry to get rid of their copy for name brand glass.

The 6 year warranty doesn't hurt either.

I have had it (Canon mount) for 2 years and have no complaints. I used it last night as my only lens:

Yeah, as much as i'd love to have the 24-70L, i just cant justify spending that much money on it, esp when there is a cheaper lens that is just about/is as good. This will be my only lens also (not really going to count the 18-55 kit lens).

I bought mine (Canon mount) a few months ago from another TPF member. It instantly became my favorite and most-used lens. Sometimes a little trouble with autofocus but that doesn't seem to be the lens' fault, more like my old 20D. Not USM but good.

Reasonably sharp lens and build quality. It was ergonomics I had to get used to. On auto-focus, keep your fingers away from the rotating focus ring located on the front part of the lens. On the other hand, it was easy to manual focus because you can go from macro to infinity with one turn of you fingers (about a 90 degree rotation). Decent macro performance.

I think it's pretty much said and done. Hope to get the 28-75 end of the month. Possibly getting the Sigma 70-200 soon after..

I don't have the Tamron. I have the Sigma DG EX AF 28-70 f2.8 and it rocks. I AM trading up to the Canon 24-70 L f2.8 but not because anything is wrong with my Sigma. I just want to upgrade my stuff across the board. The Sigma's for sale. See the Buy/Sell forum for ad.

I have it and like it, I would go with the 17-50 if you are shooting on a crop body, I use my 17-40 way more and barely the 28-75 just because its a better focal length on the crop body

When I had my Sigma 24-70, i was pretty much all over the range. I used 70mm alot for my closeup (mainly flowers). I really wanted the 25-104L, but that gets to $$$ again.

Ok so it's definitely me then. I bought this from another TPF member a month ago and gave it my first sports go-round tonight at Penn vs Temple. I'm a lil pissed that MOST of the shots I took with this were out of focus. I kept switchin back & forth with my 50mm 1.8 and that worked superbly...MOST of those shots were IN focus. I'm lookin thru the photos and I'm headed back to the drawing board to see what I did wrong tonight.

Ok, there has to be one negative review … I’ll guess it will be me. I bought this lens about one month ago and shot with it for two days. At f4 and above it was great. At f2.8 it was so soft … I did not like it at all. My test was in low light tripod mount and a newspaper at about 30 feet. I had it on a D200 and used mirror lock-up to reduce vibration from the shutter. It may have been just that one copy, but there are other reviews out there that say the same.

I bought it at a local Wolf Camera and returned it. Now I’m saving for the Nikkor.

Just having fun with my 7D & 5D mark II :-)
