A good reference for used prices in the US is KEH.com or bhphotovideo.com both vendors sell used equipment and are respected in the industry.

For another source, but not exactly the best, you can search ebay completed sales. These only go back one month. Also keep in mind that ebay transaction vary all over the place. One day somebody may pay more for used item than the same item can be bought new. The next day the same used item may sell for a small fraction of the new price. ebay is a crap shoot at best.

Another thing to consider when looking at used gear is the shipping and import fees. I had a gentleman buy a lens from me and it took two weeks and a bunch of $$$ for him to get it through customs. He said all things considered it was still not a bad deal and the time waiting was the worst part. Not much we can do about that when shipping to another country because you have to insure it and then the tax folks get you. While the shipping may included in this one, be sure to take into account any customs tax.

If this is the more recent two-ring version, then that's close to the price of a new one here. A used one in excellent condition is about $700. This is one of a handful of Nikon lenses which does not include a hood. Plan to spend a few extra ££ for that.

The older, push-pull version is running about $500 for a nice used copy.

We here in the USA should be forever grateful that we can buy a lens from Japan and have it in our hands in 3 working days for $30 USD shipping. Or that what we pay for new items is often very close to what the folks in the EU pay for used equipment.
