It's that time again ladies and gentlemen (I use that term loosely around here)
I need some good choices to make for lens beyond 200mm. Since we are talking about alot of coin for the good Canon ones...then I'm up for suggestions that will appeal to my frugalness...
So list on por favor 8)

I dont know were to get one at, but the Canon 1200mm f/5.6 L is a little beyond 200mm. :D Or the 100-400mm IS might be a little cheaper. | | | |

my guess is you'll be end up with 100-400 IS, you already know you want. But If you planning to get 70-200 2.8 as well, you should consider 400mm 5.6 L prime as you get covered most of the distances with 1.4x on 70-200.
Prime power!! | | | |

I think I'm going to narrow my scope a bit more after some consideration. If, for whatever reason, I decide to sell my stuff I think Canon will hold it's value more. With that said I'm going to stick to Canon Lenses.
So now I'm looking at the following:
300mm f/4.0L IS 1150 (BH)
400mm f/5.6L USM 1100 (BH)
100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS (Image Stabilizer) USM 1400(BH); 1440 (Dell)
Now keep in mind the last lens I can get for 10% off...not to mention any coupons that would come out (typically 20-25% off) from Dell.
So, based on this which would be best bang for my buck?

Well, I don't have any of 'em and haven't had the pleasure of using any of 'em so I can't speak for the quality of each, but...
I know you're planning on (or may already have) the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. If I were in your situation I would lean towards getting either the 300 f/4 or the 400 f/5.6, and then with the difference from the 100-400 get a 1.4x teleconverter. The teleconverter will get you to 280mm on the 70-200 while losing one stop. The IS on the 100-400 will buy you 1-2 stops, but the 300 or 400 would both be good primes that are comparably fast to the 100-400.
But that's just what I'd do. :) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
