B&H Sagemax protection plan? - 01-15-2008, 02:05 PM

Anybody ever purchased B&H Photo's Sagemax protection plan? I will be getting a new camcorder pretty soon, and I'm still debating on whether to get a protection plan for a $400 product.

It looks like the plan covers wear & tear and accidental damage, and can be had for $52 for the 2-year or $73 for the 3-year plan. Looking at something similar at Circuit City, they want $190 for a 2-year and $240 for a 4-year plan.

Just curious how many think this would be worth it in the long run. I've never bought a protection plan for anything before and not sure if I want to start. Opinions?

I always look at the cost of coverage (assuming it's good coverage) compared to the cost of the item. If the cost of the cover is more than 10-15% of the cost of the item, I skip it. <15% and it might be worth it.

I bought my first DSLR at Fry's. The warranty was good...the problem...when the LCD went out, they have to send it to their place in CA, and if they can't fix it, they have to send it to Canon. Then Canon fixes it, sends it to CA and then back to Houston. The bad news is it two took months to get it back. The good news, it is fixed and it didn't cost me a dime, and I purchased a 5D because I couldn't be without a camera for two months!!!!
