Dual Universal Battery Charger - 02-07-2008, 04:25 PM

Delkin has a universal battery charger which charges two batteries at a time and to change the type of battery you just change the charging plate.

I have two Univeral Mach1 chargers with interchangable plates but it still take me carrying around two chargers.

With this I would only have to carry one charger and a couple of plates.

If they will make a plate for the NP-80 and the M8 I can see one in my back very quickly as they have a plate for the BP-511.

The idea sounded great, until I checked which plates are available. No plates for the EN EL 4 OR 4a, so D2 or D3 users can't use this device. It does work on the EN EL 3 and 3e batteries for the D70, D200, D300 cameras. I'd sure like to find a charger for the 4's that will run in my car. I have the Nikon charger that does this for the 3's but haven't found one for the bigger 4's. I've considered using an inverter and the standard Nikon charger, but I'm not too sure how the odd wave shapes from the inverter will impact the electronics of these smart chargers.

Very nice. I've always wondered why Canon doesn't make a double charger.

I understand Delkin is open to adding more plates.

I know they have been sent a bunch of emails about one for the Leica M8 and I would suspect Nikon is just maybe a little larger market.

Here's their contact information.

Stovall

You may be right that the Nikon D2/3 market might be larger than that of the Leica M8. All kidding aside, Delrin must know that they are missing this group, and I'd bet it has something to do with the charge voltage, current or something that isn't compatible with all those other batteries. Hard to believe isn't it?

John

You may be surprised to find that Nikon doesn't make a true dual charger either. Their's have two slots, but charge batteries sequencially, rather than simutaneously.
If you're charging over night, this is great, but if you're waiting on the charger, it's not so hot.
