D2X or D300 - 03-02-2008, 07:11 PM

What are your toughts, the D300 and the D2X(used) are going for the same price. What I'm looking for is upgrading from a D80 so noise is a common obstacle I deal with at ISo above 400. My plans for use is low light wedding photography, and speed. I know the lense plays a major factor in these cases are well. So along with the new purchase, I'm looking to get a used 70-200 or 80-200 2.8. What are your toughts, suggestions. I know what you're saying ok a professional camera or a D300. Well, that's why I'm asking? I've never used any of these....

And yes, would love the D3 but 5K is way out of my price range.

The D300 has better high-ISO performance, there's no question about it. If your primary concern is low-light wedding photography I don't think the D2x is a good choice, even if it is a great camera and a excellent, well-made body that handles better than the prosumer cameras like the D300.

My understanding is the D50 handles noise much better than the D2X, consequently, you're better off getting the D300. IMHO.

It's my understanding that the D3 has a slight edge in high iso performance. That said, I would wait and see if the rumors about a possible 'D300x' are true.

If you primary use is low light weddings, I would go for the D300 for the better high iso performance. Get the grip and it will almost handle just as well as the D2X.

Thanks.. I'm using the D80 and hating life. Noise Ninja is my best friend. This is good info here. With technology the way it is, I was wondering where to go.

Hey Phillip, See your shooting with the D80, are you having issues with Noise at high ISO's and softness in your pics. Just curious.
