Are these lens good for any digital camera? - 02-01-2005, 09:25 AM

I have about 8 or 9 very nice lens, from my film days (abt. 20 years ago give or take). They all fit either a Minolta XK or XD-11 body (which I still have also). Not being into film anymore, I'm wondering if any of the lens will fit any of the current digital bodies of any make at all (adapter maybe)? These lens include some Rokkor-X's, Vivitar 90mm (Macro), Sun zoom Macro 80-240, and so on. If not, is there a place I should go to find out what these lens are worth? I guess I could Ebay them one at a time, and just take a chance, but since I know absolutely nothing about this, I thought I'd ask.
Thanks everyone!

Thanks S-Bug for the reply. I've been thinking that possibly Minolta and some of the others changed these mounts, so that the old wouldn't fit on the new cameras, and could sell more lens  But I don't know if that's the case or not.

I don't know about Minolta, tho I do have an old SRT101 laying around somewhere, but Canon has changed the mount. Adapters are/were there but hard to find..ebay...! I think the advent of lens electronics etc has forced changes. As I understand it, if you can find an adapter to mount the old Canon lenses, the operation is totally manual.
Anyone...If I am wrong, please do correct me!

Humm...Well, I still haven't found anything to say one way or the other. Guess I'll try to Ebay what I have, and stick with the current stuff. You're right, the electronics would be manual, haven't thought of that.

I don't know specifically about Minolta but it's my understanding that the only one of the major SLR makers to keep their lens mount the same over the decades is Nikon. And even they're getting away from that somewhat with the new G lenses, which don't work on older bodies; although the old lenses still work on all their current cameras (albeit with reduced functionality on some bodies like the D70 which doesn't support metering for AIS lenses).

Go to dpreview and ask. You'll find that lens mounts are manufacturer specific. After 20 years I doubt very much that that old a Minolta lens would work well on a Minolta dSLR. There have been just too many advancements over that time period.

Cliff.
