Camera Insurance - 04-09-2008, 09:25 AM

I just bought camera insurance this morning. Man this stuff is cheap, for $45 dollars a year I covered the 5D, 70-200IS f/2.8, 24-105, XTi, 10-22mm, and 580EXII. It covers me for damages or loss, anywhere in the world.

If you belong to PPA, it is the best coverage and lowest price I have found. I have purchased this type of insurance at one point and to cover $15k in stuff (not just camera equipement), it was $30 a month ($360 a year).

I think that for those that are NAPP members, insurance is even more expensive.

I am curious the dollar amount of coverage you are getting for $45 a year. Just a piece of advice (and I assume that is what you are looking for by posting), insurance is only worth what the chances are of it working when needed. It is often easy to buy, but hard to get paid off from scammers.

Please double check your deal and let us know more details. We would hate for you to find out something is awry the hard way.

Careful also with adding equipment used for commercial purposes to your homeowners. Most won't cover it!

I did the same thing thru my homeowners as an add on. It covers it for damage or loss with no deductible. The catch, it much be used only for personal use...no business. Now I'm wtih the company that does PPA which is still cheap.

Stanford, did you tell USAA this was for business or personal use? I think it makes a big difference.

If not, I would end up cancelling my $550/year insurance through Hill & Usher.

Has anyone here had bad experience filing a claim for their camera gear scheduled on their homeowners, and then having their HO rates raised, or even cancelled?

I'm just leary of putting my equipment on my HO policy (or even a separate policy through the same company) due to the horror stories I read about people being cancelled for all sorts of reasons.

Plus, if I listed the value of all my equipment on our homeowners policy, my wife would probably leave me.

Comments/experiences?

Subsidiary of Allstate is what he is trying to say. I need to give a policy some thought as well.
