welcome! and thanks for helping spread the word! the more local area photogs we get the better!
i visit
www.fredmiranda.com for their forums quite regularly. i also visit dpreview from time to time but find myself more at Fred's forums.. there is a ton of info there and it seems that there is not too much you have to sift thru in order o find what you need...
as far as UV filters, i dont use them. i seldomly use a polarizing filter and a Neutral density filter but thats it. the way i look at it is i paid a ton for these lenses because of the glass quality and i dont really want to put another layer of glas on it that may not be the same quality.
now in some situations where i may be photographing something where i may get dirt or mud or crap all on ym glass then yes i would prolly use a UV but everyday use i opt not to...
you will find many people will perfer the mand many will not. its kinda like the nikon vs canon argument. you have people on both sides so do some research, think about it and make your decision as to what YOU feel comfortable with...
hope this helps some... if u do get a UV, dont get a cheapy. i spent like $140 on my polarizer b/c of the better glass.
