DILEMMA: XTi problems - 05-24-2008, 03:15 PM

The problem:
- Something sounds loose in the camera body. Something definitely is not in place. I can hear it when i move the body or (gently) shake it.
- It shuts off 1 second after I turn it on. LCD fades to black after it shuts off.

I shot around the house earlier this morning and it was fine. A few hours later I pick it back up to shoot some more and this happens.

Where can I take this to in Houston that could fix the problem? Or what should I expect if I send it to Canon?

I bought this brand new in October of 2007. I have not abused or dropped it either. This is bumming me out. I miss shooting already

Thanks Jayson, and I'll keep you posted. I'm reading over my warranty card at the moment. My only strife with sending it to Canon is the waiting period; I was pretty eager to go out and shoot this weekend (was gonna document my skydiving trip start to finish). I'm also a worried if this is going to lighten my wallet. I just bought a 10-22 and new tripod, too... so much for that.

I'm not an expert but I think your camera should be under warrantee.
You'll have to contact Canon Repair and send it to them.
Rent a camera for your trip.

Oh dear baby Jesus, the turn around time is 2-3 weeks. I just got off the phone with a Canon rep. Hopefully my warranty will cover this.

I think they always say 2-3 weeks but I've seen return times as low as 4 days. Maybe you will get lucky there. If it's a warranty item, definately send it in to Canon. Good luck to you.

Is this a problem that developed recently? It almost sounds like a power supply problem, like the battery not making full contact. That's probably not it, but it's an armchair guess. Have you tried another battery, maybe?

I use the Canon grip with my XTi. Only issue related to that I've had is that the battery tray feels like it flexes if I hold it a certain way. But it's never shut off the camera.
