All of the photogs were using film. Most used Nikon. There was one Leica. I'd be interested in knowing what they're using now. I'm betting on Canon DSLRs.

When I worked on newspapers from the early 70s to mid 80s, 35mm Nikon was the PJs' camera of choice. When I returned to newspapers in 2000, Canon Digital was the overwhelming choice. It was still that way in the DFW area when I retired in 2006.
It is largely up to the photographer. Joe McNally uses Nikon and he shot the first digital story for NGEO.

Pentax since 1968 and probably about $25000 of Tak and Pentax glass, accumulated over the years. And a Canon Mark II for sports shooting.

If I was starting now it would be a Nikon D700.

I shoot mainly with a 5D, but if I'm feeling frisky I'll shoot on my custom medium format toy HOLGA 120N!

I have owned three Sony's in the past and enjoyed them very much. But I guess my screen name says it all. I love my Nikon's.
