Gray market equipment

Unless I'm misinformed, they are identical except for the importation channel so unless it came with some documentation from the original purchaser there should be no way to tell them apart.

Serial Numbers should always tell if US

what would be the difference in serial numbers?
what should I look for?

it depends on what you're looking at. anything specific? my d300's box has a U code on it, for US I believe (unless it's the kosher "U" for Union of Orthodox Hebrews)
