I currently use a cheapo Walmart tripod and mono pod, the tripod is okay for now but I am wondering what kind of inexpensive heads are availble for a monopod
The reason I am asking is I want to be able to shoot portrait style on a monopod and I dont have any glass that has a support collar,
I have been looking at the cheaper bogen monopods around 50 bucks, any suggestions on a head that will enable me to go portrait? prefferably with a quick release

The word 'inexpensive' and head don't go together. Look at what RRS has and consider an "L" base.

Really right stuff has a new monopod head with a capacity of 75 lbs. It looks pretty cool, and sturdy enough for the big guns.

For the swivel and the B2 Pro clamp, they list $226.
Their recommended lightweight alternative, which uses a manfrotto base and one of their clamps is listed at about $100.
However, the difference in the load limit is huge (5.6lbs vs. 75lbs). And if you go the manfrotto route, you're pretty much locked in to always using their stuff, as the plates are proprietary. That's one reason i recently moved to RRS.

I have one of the new RRS Monopod heads as well as the Manfrotto 3232 with a Wimberley Arca-Swiss clamp. I have used the latter for sometime now and it works well with lighter camera and lens combinations but I was not happy with its performance with a large telephoto lens and camera combo.
The RRS is magnificent with large lenses and can be used to convert a Gimbal head to accomodate a smaller camera and lens combo without a tripod collar. You can get almost the same versatility of a L bracket with just a standard camera plate and without the need to remove the camera from the clamp and change its orientation.
