So very true, I would love to test one of these out, but the fear of no letting go when done is the problem.

I used to shoot with the film versions back in the day...

Ahh yes, used to shoot 4x5 with those back in the day too! Made some nice 4x5 neg for Frito-Lay back in 1992. Back then the going price for a shoot for about 5 shots was 5-8k just to shoot some chips!

Why does this have a pop up flash? Would anyone really use that?

Well, for starters the sensor is huge. It's about 3 times larger than a 5D sensor. Medium and large format actually had to do with cameras in the film days. Anything with a 4x5 negative or larger is considered a large format camera. A Hasselblad is considered a medium format camera.

The sensors are actually twice as big as 35mm full-frame (36x48mm). That's a big part of the price difference, but not all. These MF backs and cameras are low-volume, high-markup products it's just the nature of that market.

If I were going to spend that kind of dough I'd go for the Phase One back and a view camera.

so with the large sensors, I guess that gives you super clear pictures, and I am assuming that you could blow these up to huge sizes, what kind of photography are these primarily used for?
