I finally decided that enough was enough, as I was tired of hearing all the great things about the D300 and I didn't have one.

So, went to Arlington Camera yesterday and purchased the D300 body and my D80 body is already on eBay. Played with it until way too late last night, and it's going to take me awhile to get familiar with all the additional menu items, but I'm looking forward to it.

Can anyone give me some feedback on applying the D2X settings to the D300? I've heard bits and pieces but I don't know the whole story. If there's a somewhat easy way to tweak my settings to really get the best out of this camera I'm all ears.

Viva la D300!

Regards,

BobCool

Congrats, Bob! Now you're even cooler! Have you uplaoded the D2x modes yet? Or is that what you are needing to do? I just did mine last night and am still in the process of trying it out to see if there are any tweaks needed. From what I have read online, people have been pushing the sharpness to 4 and saturation to 1 and leaving hue at 0 or -1.

Namaste!

Hi Francis,

No, I haven't uploaded the D2X settings yet - thanks for the sharpness/sat/hue settings - I'll research more on how to "get" the D2X settings.

And, in the voice of the Geiko gecko,

"I gotta admit it though, I do feel slightly cooler.."

Regards,

Bob

Once you upload, the settings will be in the camera, but will not appear when you view the settings. I was told that they will be in there, but you can tweak it even more when you view the settings.

Congrats on the new camera! I cam from Canon to the D300 and I couldn't be happier.

Mind telling us why you switched and what Canon body (or bodies) you had before switching? Thanks.

Well, first I would like to point out that I am not a rabid fanboy of either camp. Both makes excellent equipment and will continue to do so.

I veered away from Canon for money reasons. While I was overseas I had some offers on my gear I couldn't refuse. Upon returning to the states, the D300 was released and I had to chance to hold and fiddle around with one and was instantly sold. I love the way it feels in my hands and imho it's more intuitive to use than my previous Canon bodies. Some features don't feel so buried in the menu.

Thanks. I was just curios. I (currently) own the D300 as well.
